Bibliography Ballard, C. (2005) Still good to think with: the sweet potato in Oceania, In: The Sweet Potato in Oceania: a reappraisal, eds Chris Ballard, Paula Brown, R. Michael Bourke and Tracy Harwood, 1-13, Oceania Publications and University of Pittsburgh, NSW, Australia
Abstract / Content summary These introductory remarks review the history of lively debate surrounding the role of sweet potato in Oceania, focusing in particular on the timing and direction of the apparently multiple introductions of sweet potato to Oceania, and on the nature of its adoption and impact in selected locations, such as the New Guinea highlands. The intensive research of Doug Yen on the first question, and the provocative stance adopted by James Watson on the second, continue to inform contemporary research and debate. The ‘sweet potato revolution’ is by no means complete in the region, and a return to these central debates is as important now as it was thirty or more years ago.
